To get the maximum benefit from your course, please read these listening recommendations before you start.

Required Equipment

You will need the following equipment:”

  • An internet enabled device, eg: computer, tablet or mobile phone.
  • A pair of full-sized headphones. Playback through in-ear earphones or loudspeakers is not recommended as it will dramatically reduce the effectiveness of the programmes.

Listening Sessions

Your SAS course consists of a sequence of daily listening sessions over a period of several weeks. Each day has two half-hour listening sessions. You can listen to both in a single one-hour long session, or spread them across the day in two half-hour sessions.

If you choose to listen to both sessions together, ensure that slider underneath the play button is ON.

Left and Right Ear

Make sure that the right channel is played to the right ear and the left channel to the left ear. Most headphones indicate this on the ear pieces with 'R' for Right and 'L' for Left. Your first listening session each day will also include a short audio test to check this.

Sound Level

Ensure the volume is turned completely down prior to connecting the headphones to the computer, tablet or mobile phone.

Turn the volume slowly up to a comfortable, but low level. The effectiveness of the programmes does not depend on a high sound level.

When choosing the volume for a young child, take extra care to set the volume low. Observe the reactions of your child and adjust the volume accordingly. Remember that many children are much more sensitive to sound than most adults.

Attention, Awake or Asleep

There is no need to pay conscious attention while listening. Children can play, draw or read. Adults may wish to relax or close their eyes. It is best to limit conversation or sounds from other devices as this is difficult due to the use of headphones.

The programmes are equally effective when listened to awake or asleep.

For children that do not like to wear headphones, or that currently lack the attention span to listen for at least half-an-hour at a time, the programmes can be played shortly after they have fallen asleep, either during the day or at night.

Safety Information: If it’s more convenient that your child listens to their session while asleep ensure that the headphone cable is safely placed so it will not accidentally get tangled up and stay with your child for the duration of the programmes.


Interrupting or Repeating the Course

The course is most effective when listened to every day, with a maximum interruption of no more than two days in a row. Interruptions of longer than two days will reduce the effectiveness of the programmes, but if this happens, restart your listening sessions as soon as possible and complete the course with minimal rest days.

Routine

A clear structure and strict adherence to the daily sessions strengthens commitment and will enhance results. Before starting the course, consider all your commitments for the coming weeks and ensure time is set aside to complete the course with minimal disruption. It is better to wait before starting the course than having to interrupt the course half-way.

Observations and Effects

The First Session

Listening sessions provide a healthy workout for the brain and are usually very well tolerated. Very occasionally during the first few sessions mild headaches or nausea can be experienced. This is normal and will resolve within the first week of the course as your brain gets used to the new input.

Do not worry if the you/your child fall asleep during the session as the programmes are equally effective when listened to awake or asleep.

Following Sessions

SAS courses are designed to increase the effectiveness of sensory and overall brain processing habits and positive changes in well-being and functioning can be expected.

Most users are able to listen to the whole course without adverse reactions.

After taking the Course

From experience we know that changes in processing sensory information often take time to filter through to observable changes. Often changes occur during the period of taking the course and sometimes they become apparent during the three months after completion of the course.
